Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared in film and TV, in addition to on stage is best known for playing Teri Joseph, the fiery attorney featured in Showtime's Soul Food. She is now known by her married name, Nikki Kodjoe. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an aptitude for acting in her when she was a child and won the Best Actress award in the Maryland high school contest. Contractor, who was brought up by his parents from Nigeria and Mumbai before he turned 7years old, traveled all over all over the world and had a taste of many cultures as a child. The boarding school she attended was in London between seven and nine years old, then her family relocated to Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her youth and early adulthood. Then, in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics, and was trained to become a classical ballerina. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a school of the arts which focuses on theater and dance. At the age of 16 and after more than 10 years of dancing, Contractor realized she wanted to study acting professionally. When she graduated from high school she received a full-time scholarship to at the University of Toronto, where she earned a master's degree in theatre and a double major in psychology and sociology. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the show Pericles at the prestigious famous, world-class Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and got the role of lead. The production she appeared in received acclaim from Canadian critics. The conservatory in Stratford is home to eight males, four women and a handful of additional people to take a 20 weeks of crash courses.
